"A great shock has come to the family and friends of Gordon FORSYTH whose sudden death after but three days of illness, occurred at the Glendale Sanitarium Wednesday afternoon.
The cause of death was diagnosed by the attending physician as meningitis believed to have resulted from a fall Gordon sustained a year ago and the germs of which had been dormant in his system for months.

Interment will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Goldendale, Washington, where funeral services will be held, the body being accompanied to that point by Douglas FORSYTH.

OBITUARY (Elizabeth Orange Ladd)

Elizabeth Orange Ladd was born in Clarksville, Halifax county, Virginia, July 10th, 1838, and died at her home in Goldendale on June 23rd, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 17 days.

Her early life was spent in Virginia and Tennessee, where she spent several years in teaching school.

On March 4, 1863, in Coahoma county, Mississippi she was married to Robert B. Stout, who died in 1907. To this union seven children were born, five of whom survive. The three eldest were born in the east before they came here about sixty years ago. The other children were born in Oregon and Washington.

She united with the Episcopal church in her early life and was a kind, faithful wife and mother. She was ever ready and willing to help in sickness as her many friends and testify. She was always kind and thoughtful for those in need.

Mrs. Stout was remarkably bright up till her last illness and took an active interest in life and those around her. She was a person who always appreciated a kindness from a friend and those who would spend a few lonely hours with her or bring her flowers.

Her two children who preceded her in death were Mrs. Evelyn Flannery and Wm. H. Stout. The children surviving her are Don A. Stout of Malott, Wash., Mrs. Jennie Darch and Mrs. Mary Heller, of Goldendale, and Mrs. Lelia Carter, of Bickleton, Wash., and Robert B. Stout of Vancouver, Wash. she is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and 10 great grand children.

She will ever be held in loving remembrance by her children and friends, who will remember for her kindness and sterling worth.

The following poem is one of her favorites and very similar to the life she led.

“If Nobody Shirked”

I know not whence I came,
I know not wither I go;
But the fact stands clear that I am here,
In this world of pleasure and woe,
And out of the mist and murk
Another truth shines plain —
It is my power each day and hour
To add to its joy or its pain.

I know that the earth exists,
It is none of my business why;
I cannot find out what it’s all about
I would but waste time to try,
My life is a brief, brief thing,
I am here for a little space,
And while I stay I would like, if I may,
To brighten and better the place.

The trouble, I think, with us all,
Is the lack of high conceit.
If each man thought he was sent to this spot
To make it a bit more sweet,
How soon we could gladden the world,
How easily right all wrong,
If nobody shirked, and each one worked
To help his fellows along.

Cease wondering why you came –
Stop looking for faults and flaws;
Rise up today in your pride and say
“I am part of the First Great Cause!
However full the world,
There is room for an earnest man,
It had need of me, or I would not be --
I am here to strengthen the plan.”
